Board Meeting Date Change and Your Invite to the 4 North County Chamber Mixer!

posted Jun 29, 2017, 10:09 PM by Ashley Miller   [ updated Jun 29, 2017, 10:21 PM ]

We have two important dates to share this month:

1) Due to the Fourth of July holiday, we will be moving our regular monthly meeting to Tuesday, July 11th at 6:30pm at Mars Mega Storage. Our meetings are open to all members and prospective members. We hope to see you there!

2) It is time for the Annual 4 North County Chamber Mixer!

Business networking will be in high gear at this annual “Super-Mixer” hosted by the Chambers of Commerce in Atascadero, Templeton, Paso Robles and San Miguel and to be held at the Templeton Tennis Ranch on Championship Way (off Theatre Drive), on Thursday, July 13 from 5:30PM-7:30PM. With over 3000 collective members in the four chambers, this event is a powerful networking opportunity and a perfect chance to tour the new hotel.

Now in its 6th year, this event has become a “not to be missed” night, where business relationships are cultivated and old friends reconnect in the spirit of cooperation and economic vitality in the North County.

“While each of our community chambers has their own goals and operations, this annual event presents a valuable opportunity for all of our businesses professionals to network with each other in a casual environment, gaining new leads and strengthening existing business relationships. It is a very valuable part of membership in a North County Chamber of Commerce”, says Sarah Maggelet, Executive Director of the Templeton Chamber of Commerce.

Attendees will enjoy wine tasting from several local wineries, taste appetizers from half a dozen local caterers and relax on the club patio area. Each chamber donates a beautiful raffle prize gift basket plus a grand prize package from the host, Templeton Tennis Ranch.

This event is a membership benefit of members of any one of the four Chambers. Non-members are welcome to attend by contacting a participating Chamber of Commerce to be registered on the guest list.

For more information or to RSVP, contact your local Chamber of Commerce (contact the SMCC directly at

ALSO - SMCC still needs volunteers to assist during the event on July 13th at the Templeton Tennis Ranch in Templeton at 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Email us at to let us know you can help!

SMCC Cruise Night and Car Show was a big success...over 190 cars regaled Mission Street as well as plenty of great food vendors along the sidewalk. This was one for the record books.

If you missed it this year, make sure to mark it on your calendar for next year's event on Memorial Day weekend!

Why Sagebrush Days?

posted Apr 19, 2017, 7:48 AM by Ashley Miller

This is the 27th year of the San Miguel Sagebrush Days Parade and Peddlers Faire. In the 5 years in which the San Miguel Chamber of Commerce has played host, we have seen a wide variety of participation in this event. Groups as diverse as Lillian Larsen School's PTO, the Vaqueros Equestrian Riding Group, the Sheriffs’ Posse and the Model A Club as well as the San Miguel Volunteer Fire-fighters, San Miguel Lion's Club and The Sons and Daughters of the Golden West will hold forth this year along with other individuals and organizations.

The event's origins stem from interest in developing a community event with historically significant context. Under the leadership of Allan Belden, with the assistance of the Lions Club and the community of San Miguel, this concept was formed and these individuals and organizations have consistently played a part in maintaining it every April over the course of the years.

Though coordinated by the San Miguel Chamber (which essentially makes them both host and sponsor) through the San Miguel Parade Committee, other sponsors supporting Sagebrush Days this year include the San Miguel Garbage Company and San Marcos Creek Winery.

San Miguel's origins have important historical implications that underscore the purpose for this event. Our Mission, San Miguel Arcangel, which was established in 1797 and its presence as a National Historical Treasure (the existence still of the actual frescos that regale the interior of its functioning church-- a remarkable maintenance of original artistic devotion) make it a sublime place to visit. The art itself was completed by Salinan Indians, native to this area of San Luis Obispo County. Additionally, another western historic site, the Rios Caledonia Adobe, has been carefully maintained and curated. It represents another important feature of the story of old San Miguel. Also, an early Mill, used to grind the wheat that was exported from San Miguel in the 1800's still exists on Mission Street.

These and other features specific to San Miguel offer plenty of reasons for visiting our community.

While here one may sample the great Mexican cuisine of Dos Hermanos on 10th Street and Tacos Mafia on 14th. Leo's Cafe is also on 10th Street and has built a reputation for delicious breakfast, lunch and dinners of American fare. The Elkhorn Bar on Mission Street is considered to be the 2nd oldest bar in California and the San Miguel Mercantile offers varieties of antiques and collectibles among its other items. Also, the Pleasant Valley Wine Trail offers visitors plenty of opportunities to sample wonderful, high quality regional wines.

Any group or organization with a historic perspective of the San Luis Obispo County region, farming and/or cultural history may join in the parade. The applications can be obtained right here and delivered (if you choose) to the San Miguel Mercantile at 1141A Mission Street, San Miguel. Just click here or the Sagebrush Days poster on the homepage and it will go directly to the applications, which can be downloaded and either taken to the Mercantile directly or mailed to P.O. Box 385, San Miguel, Ca. 93451) or applications can be downloaded from the Discover San Miguel website. For more information, contact Mike Sanders, SMCC Chairman, at or call (805) 712-9120.

Thank you for a great Mixer!

posted Mar 22, 2017, 7:22 AM by Ashley Miller   [ updated Mar 22, 2017, 7:25 AM ]

The SMCC hosted a great Mixer at the Military Museum at Camp Roberts on March 7th. About 20 people attended, interacted in lots of military professional Q/A and witnessed the incredible number of artifacts that are carefully maintained by the curator, Gary McMasters. Food (provided by the SMCC Board members) and wine (generously supplied by San Marcos Creek Winery). This was a very dynamic and informative mixer.

Look forward to our next Mixer in June at the Vines RV Resort and in July with the 4North County Chamber Mixer in Templeton. More information about dates and times of mixers and the May Car Show will be announced as we draw closer to the actual event.
